WCU to play four games this week, all on the road
2009 (Junior): Used primarily as the team's closer, made 26 relief appearances - tied for the team lead - with a 3-3 overall record and a career-best eight saves ... Led the team with 23 games finished ... Posted a 3.86 ERA in 35 innings pitched, striking out 38 against 14 walks ... Did not allow a single run through his first seven appearances on the year - a combined seven innings of four-hit relief ... Had a similar run at the end of the year, working six-straight games without allowing a run for a combined six and two-thirds innings pitched ... Recorded his first career save in the 4-1 home victory over Bowling Green, inducing a ground out before fanning the final two batters ... Garnered his first career Southern Conference Pitcher of the Week plaudit on March 2 after closing out both of WCU's road wins over No. 24 USC ... Struck out the side in the ninth inning in the 3-2 decision over the Trojans and also finished off Western's 9-3 win the series finale - all told on the week, recorded four strikeouts in the two innings of work, holding the No. 24 Trojans to one hit and a .143 batting average ... Worked a season-long three and two-thirds innings against Eastern Kentucky, securing the victory ... Also tallied seasonal wins over East Tennessee State and in game one over SoCon-foe, Wofford.
2008 (Sophomore): Made 11 appearances including a career-best five starts ... Posted a 1-2 record in 30.0 innings of action with 30 strikeouts against 11 walks for a team-best 2.7 strikeout-to-walk ratio ... Made his first career start against UNC Asheville at McCormick Field, lasting three innings allowing five runs on four hits with three walks and three strikeouts, but did not factor into the decision ... Earned his first collegiate victory in his second all-time start, tossing four innings of two-run, five-hit work at Gardner-Webb with four strikeouts ... Was entrusted with the start twice against perennial powerhouse, Clemson ... Posted three-straight appearances in which he recorded a career-high five strikeouts including Clemson, Furman and the College of Charleston ... Only allowed two earned runs against 11 strikeouts in the final 7.1 innings of relief work he made in his final four relief appearances ... Returned to the Valley League to play for the Fauquier Gators during the summer.
2007 (Freshman): Took the mound 13 times as a freshman, pitching 17.2 innings on the year in relief...Struck out 11 batters...Was a quality reliever in times of need for the Catamounts...Had a season-high three strikeouts in a game, occurring three times ... Joined the Catamount contingent on the Fauquier Gators of the Valley League during the summer, becoming the third WCU player on the team ... Made 13 appearances for 17.2 innings for the Gators, mirroring his regular season workload ... Had 25 strikeouts ... Finished 4th on the team with a 2.04 ERA, allowing opposing batters to hit only .157 for the summer.
Prior to Western: As a junior, named first team 2005 North Carolina Baseball Coaches Association 4A All-State ... Had an elbow injury as a senior ... Despite that, batted .320 with three home runs and 20 RBI to earn All-Tri-Seven Conference honors ... As a junior, was tabbed Tri-Seven Conference Player of the Year after batting .447 with nine doubles, six home runs and 41 RBI ... On the mound, posted a 7-1 record and a1.91 ERA ... As a sophomore won the first of three All-Conference honors ... Batted .350 and went 7-1 on the mound with a 1.99 ERA ... For his career, struck out 78 batters in 78 innings ... Also a three-time Academic All-Conference honoree.
